Secondhand Smoke is about a six-minute-long, slow-building acoustic indie pop/rock track, about a cancerous relationship that the speaker can't seem to quit, holding on to dear life, to the shell of a relationship that would’ve been long gone if they had learned to let go, because it’s all they’ve ever known.

Inspired by artists like Ethel Cain, Phoebe Bridgers, and Mitski, the song builds for a solid four minutes with acoustic guitar, sliding electric guitar, twinkling piano, electric bass, laidback tambourine and an intense drum line at the climax of the song.
